Answers to all of your questions

Are you insured?

Mika Larson Photography (DBA Weddings by Mika) is a registered California LLC business that is fully insured. We can provide your venue with a certificate if required.

What kind of gear do you use?

I use professional full-frame DSLRs (Canon 5d Mark IV) along with professional Canon "L" lenses. For photography we will bring two camera bodies to a typical wedding and for video it depends on the package you choose, but we always have at least one body for a backup as well as multiple lenses.

Will there be a second shooter?

Weddings are generally shot with one shooter (myself), however I can bring a second shooter for an additional fee of 50% of the package price. This covers not only my associate photographers fee, but also the additional editing hours required for the post processing. Having a second shooter generally adds 50% more finished photos to your gallery.

Can I add hours to my wedding on the day of?

Generally this is possible at a rate of $250/hour per photographer.

How do I order prints or albums?

I have a relationship with a professional photo lab and can offer luxury quality prints and albums to my clients at reasonable rates. You can purchase prints directly through the online gallery once I have delivered your fully edited images. However if you prefer to print them elsewhere, my packages to include printing rights so you can print anywhere.

How many photos will I receive?

Professional photographers prefer to shoot for quality over quantity. If you just want quantity anyone with an iPhone can shoot and deliver thousands of photos. However we carefully create our photos with an eye towards composition and emotion, and then during post processing evaluate and compare the thousands of photos we take to give you the best of the best. There will not be duplicate photos, or photos with bad expressions or blinks. The number of photos also depends on external factors such as the venue, decor, what is happening, number of locations, etc. After considering all of this, you would likely end up with 50-100 of carefully crafted and edited final photos per hour of the event.

How do you keep my images safe?

As I take them. all of your photos are instantly duplicated onto a backup memory card, so insurance is created in case one memory card fails or breaks. As soon as I get home from your session or wedding, I start downloading all of the images to a hard drive, which is then copied over to a second backup hard drive. So at this point, your photos exist in FOUR places. Then, when I deliver your photos they are uploaded to an online gallery, where they will live for a minimum of one year.

How long does it take to receive my edited photos and film?

I deliver my photos via an online gallery, where it's very easy to download them and save them to your computer. For an engagement session, you'll receive your gallery within 2-3 weeks. For a wedding, you'll receive your gallery within 4-6 weeks and the film within 2-3 months. I know how excited you are to see your pictures so I work really hard to get them back to you as soon as possible, must faster than the industry standard! If you absolutely can't wait that long, expedited editing is available for $400, that'll cut your delivery time in half.

Are you able to photograph in dark environments?

Absolutely. Having experience in commercial and studio photography, we're very comfortable using flashes as much as natural light.

ARE YOU A PART OF ANY PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATIONS, OR DO YOU HAVE SPECIFIC TRAINING IN YOUR FIELD?

I am a member of the Photographers Association of America (PPA), an organization recognizing professional photographers and providing them community, accreditation, and even insurance.

Where are you located?

I am based out of Pasadena, CA in the county of Los Angeles. I shoot all over Southern California and beyond.

ARE YOU FAMILIAR WITH OUR PARTICULAR CULTURAL OR RELIGIOUS TRADITIONS?

I have been fortunate to have photographed many different types of weddings. I’ve documented Catholic, Jewish, Hindu, Chinese, Episcopalian, Orthodox Greek, non-denominational, and Persian ceremonies just to name a few. If you are having a wedding that is not listed here, I would absolutely love to learn all about the customs and events.
